So I’ve been drooling over the Nikon D90 for sometime now, and my husband decided to surprise me with one a couple of weeks before my birthday. I was so excited that I almost forgot to ask him where he bought it. Much to my chagrin, his answer was Best Buy. Despite this, I at least had the peace of mind that the quality would be the same no matter where it was purchased.
Fast forward three weeks, and I wanted to pick up a couple of filters and some accessories. We walked into Competitive Camera and Ramsey helped us. He took the time to demonstrate the differences in quality of the various UV filters, and made sure to ask where we bought the camera. I of course looked immediately to my husband for him to answer. I was dreading the response we would get when he admitted his big box purchase. But we were both very surprised when he took out his card, wrote the price of the Nikon D90 at his store on the back, and explained that if we took that to Best Buy, they would reimburse us $100 price difference.
A word to the D90-seeking wise… $1150 at Competitive Camera and $1250 at Best Buy. Not to mention that they offer service and maintenance on all camera purchases, for extended time after the purchase. Ramsey and the boys will keep you informed and on top of your game, without as much as a judgemental blink. Competitive Cameras is located at 2025 Irving Blvd. #107 – Dallas, Texas 75207.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Competitive, but I have to admit all of my big purchases are made online. Amazon has the D90 for $890 – Adorama (a favourite of mine) has it for $900.
I’d rather wait a few days for things to ship and save a couple of hundred dollars.
Having said that, I do like buying sundries at the real stores – I think Arlington Camera is the one I go to the most.

I should add that the prices mentioned above are for the D90 kit which includes the 18 – 105 VR Lens, and not just the camera body.

I like competitive and used to buy a lot of film and paper there. Also, odds and ends, like my speedotron accessories and color gels… But, I have to admit that I also frequent Dallas Camera and buy a lot of gear online at B&H.
